The rich iron oxide patina of this bold art begins with rusty pieces of metal and fallen leaves placed on wet canvas to create interesting marks.
Developed in layers, the rolled and bound cloth is left in the sun to allow the metal to oxidize and the leaves to break down, staining the fabric. The result is an intricate web of patterns that create a beautiful design of texture and depth.
The background was painted with bone black powder mixed with soy milk to bind the dry pigment to the canvas. Contemplative hand stitching enhances the design and gives the piece texture.
